# Dock seal and dock shelter documentary register

Version **2.0**. Last verified **September 12, 2026**.

This compilation contains manufacturer-published configurations, a dated code-evidence ledger and a North Carolina county climate-scope crosswalk. It is not laboratory measurement, a representative market survey, an installation-price dataset or a determination of any property's legal obligations.

## Files and units

| File | Contents | Unit of observation |
| --- | --- | --- |
| `dock-seal-vs-shelter-application-limits-2026-09-12.csv` | Four manufacturers, 11 named families and three general-category records | A named family or a general published class, explicitly distinguished |
| `dock-weatherseal-code-ledger-2026-09-12.csv` | 17 documentary records: 15 included evidence records and two excluded historical leads | A dated document/provision and its verification disposition |
| `nc-dock-weatherseal-climate-scope-by-county-2026-09-12.csv` | All 100 counties, their 2018 state-code zones and a defined clause-scope comparison | A county, not a dock or building |
| `dock-seal-vs-shelter-dataset-2026-09-12.json` | Actual records from all three CSV files, methodology, counts, cautions and sources | Same records as the CSV files |
| `source-inventory-2026-09-12.json` | Source URLs, publishers, locators, dates and evidence limits | A source document |
| `verify-counts.py` | Deterministic count and consistency checks | Not a measurement instrument |

## Manufacturer fields

`record_kind` separates `named_family` from `general_category`. General categories can overlap named families and must not be counted as additional models. `manufacturer_label` retains the source label. `is_seal_label` records whether that label begins with “seal.”

`published_max_door_opening` preserves the legacy field name but contains the actual qualified opening statement: it can be a standard configuration or a best-suited application, not necessarily an absolute maximum. `width_basis` states how the value should be read. `documented_configuration_width_in` is the width of the explicitly documented configuration, converted to inches for count checks. It is blank in CSV/null in JSON where no maximum has been adopted. Missing does not mean zero, unlimited or unsuitable.

`published_projection` retains its reference point. Additional head-bag drop is not a projection dimension. `published_trailer_range` retains the required dock-height condition. `published_warranty` distinguishes archived manufacturer statements from current product-page wording and transaction-specific contracts. Other qualifiers remain in `key_published_limitation`.

## Code fields

`publish_status` is `included` or `excluded`. An included record can be primary clause text, an applicability rule or bounded official documentary corroboration; it is not necessarily a complete code read-through. `verification_tier` and `verification_note` explain the route. No operative climate or contact conclusion is retained for excluded leads.

`explicit_top_and_side_contact` records express wording in the stated source. “No explicit wording” does not mean that contact is unnecessary to achieve adequate sealing. `climate_zone_scope` describes the clause, not every scope provision or exception in the entire code.

The unamended 2013 ASHRAE weatherseal text and the historical Houston amendment were not sufficiently retrieved in this audit; those leads are excluded, not provisional legal guidance.

## County fields

`climate_zone_2018_NCECC_Table_C301_1` is transcribed from the adopted 2018 North Carolina table. `within_ASHRAE_2016_clause_zone_scope` asks only whether that label falls within Zones 0 and 4–8, the list in the dated 2016 comparison clause. It does not certify that every ASHRAE edition has an identical county map.

`NCECC_2018_C402_5_6_has_zone_exclusion` is false because the reviewed clause does not state a zone exclusion. `clause_climate_scopes_differ` is true for Zone 3A in this defined crosswalk. Neither field determines whether a building must have weatherseals.

`primary_F_S_U_occupancy_exemption` records the statewide primary Factory, Storage and Utility occupancy exemption under G.S. 143-138(b18). `project_requirement_determined` is false for every row. `piedmont_triad_county` identifies membership in the 12-county area listed by PTRC.

Booleans are stored as the strings `true` and `false` in CSV and retained as strings in the combined JSON; the normalized width field is the numeric/null exception. This makes the CSV/JSON comparison explicit and reproducible.

## Reproduce the published counts

Keep the data files and script in the same directory. Run:

```bash
python3 verify-counts.py
```

The script checks the 14/11/3 documentation split, the 9-versus-7 seal denominators, the three qualifying named families, the 46/48/6 county-zone distribution, the regional subset and CSV/JSON equality. It performs no network requests and no evaluation of an individual building's legal status.

## Attribution and dates

Greensboro Dock Door Repair Research. *Dock seal and dock shelter documentary register.* Version 2.0. Verified September 12, 2026.

Manufacturer specifications remain attributed to their producers. Source publication dates are kept separate from verification dates; an undated document is not assigned a publication year merely because it was checked in 2026.
