A repair may address an identified sensor, light assembly, switch, wiring segment, control component, or mechanical part when the remaining system and manufacturer support permit that scope. Broad impact damage, unavailable compatible components, repeated faults, or a larger control change can lead to a replacement discussion, but only after inspection.
Ask the provider to separate restraint-mechanism work from control, communication-light, door, leveler, electrical, and structural attachment work. The restraint will not engage on one trailer but works on others — is it broken?
Not necessarily. One-trailer behavior does not establish whether the restraint or trailer is at fault. Request assessment using the restraint's manufacturer documentation, model, trailer identifier, rear-impact-guard geometry, trailer design, and observed engagement condition. Do not enter the dock-to-trailer area or repeatedly operate the restraint to investigate.
The light stays red — can we load anyway?
A red indication can be a normal stop or status signal, so color alone does not prove a fault or grant permission to load.1 Follow the facility's approved procedure and stop when the required sequence or indication is absent. Safety personnel decide what manufacturer instructions and site rules allow before loading resumes; do not bypass the interlock.
